The background to this was originally must simpler and filled mostly with mist, but somehow it became a little more overbearing than initially planned. This is also the first time I didn't start with a pencil drawing before pulling it into Photoshop -- I dove straight into painting and started with a digital color sketch instead.

Oh, that's beautiful. And the shadows and highlights are wonderfully rich and calming! It's so desolate it's almost eerie, especially as Fox looks so worried (but he usually does)! I like the way Cassia looks carefree and naive so he seems to be protecting her. I wonder what she's saying...The reflections on the water are stunning - interestingly juxta-posed with where Cassia is kneeling so she looks like the light to Fox's pastel tones.
