Lackadaisy Paperback by tracyjb Lackadaisy Paperback by tracyjb
Front cover art for Lackadaisy Book 1, to be published later this year by ReNoir Comics

I had to focus more on composition this time and less on the was good excercise to force myself to do that as my unfortunate tendency is usually to sluice the canvas with detail work and -then- worry about composition.

Rocky is pictured here in a fashion that I think is too similar to his look in the Lackadaisy Cardshark illustration, but his swoopy posture and the inclusion of the violin was integral to the flow of the picture...besides, that combined with the menacing/idiotic grin is him in a nutshell, and seemed appropriate for the cover art. I think Mitzi mingles well with the background, though, and Freckle is fittingly stuck in the middle. Sorry about the inclusion of the text treatment here - but I felt it held together better with that as part of the image.
Anyway, hopefully overall it's not over-saturated and has some semblance of structure. It was sketched in pencil first then painted in Photoshop. The text was modeled, textured and rendered in 3DS Max.

The comic and related art can be found at the Lackadaisy web site

anything to do with tigers or guns ill like. this has both
OfTheBlessed Featured By Owner Aug 30, 2013
Calvin "Freckle" McMurray there, the one that looks like a tiger and is holding a Tommy gun, is actually an orange tabby cat.
This is still definitely worth liking though.

the detail on her dress is amazing
dinshino Featured By Owner Jul 24, 2009
Hmmm... I can definitely see Freckle wearing the green, but I had never imagined Rocky in a blue and orange scheme. I dunno, I guess I always thought of him as wearing a medium brown or charcoal gray suit with a burgandy tie.
tracyjb Featured By Owner Jul 24, 2009
He's been wearing blue and orange even in the original concept sketches for the character here in my gallery. I suppose in my mind, his personality is a little too...flamboyant for the predominantly neutral colors of the traditional men's wardrobe.
dinshino Featured By Owner Jul 25, 2009
You've got a point there. The only other color scheme that came to mind was a burgandy suit, with a gold/dark yellow tie.

it feels kinda dumb to see ppl just saying "that cat-man-thing with orange fur" -stuff

I really recommend that, lackadaisy is truly a masterpiece, literally
