Front cover art for Lackadaisy Book 1, to be published later this year by ReNoir Comics
I had to focus more on composition this time and less on the minutiae...it was good excercise to force myself to do that as my unfortunate tendency is usually to sluice the canvas with detail work and -then- worry about composition.
Rocky is pictured here in a fashion that I think is too similar to his look in the Lackadaisy Cardshark illustration, but his swoopy posture and the inclusion of the violin was integral to the flow of the picture...besides, that combined with the menacing/idiotic grin is him in a nutshell, and seemed appropriate for the cover art. I think Mitzi mingles well with the background, though, and Freckle is fittingly stuck in the middle. Sorry about the inclusion of the text treatment here - but I felt it held together better with that as part of the image. Anyway, hopefully overall it's not over-saturated and has some semblance of structure. It was sketched in pencil first then painted in Photoshop. The text was modeled, textured and rendered in 3DS Max.
BTW, they have such cute faces!
