Latest couple of pages.

The language Mrs. Bapka is speaking is Slovak.
"Defiance" here refers to a town in Missouri.

---------------

The Lackadaisy Volume 1 book is available in the publisher's online store, or through major book stores and comic shops.
If you care to nudge your favorite local shop to stock it, it would be ever so appreciated. (They can now get it through Diamond Distribution.)

As always, prior comic pages can be found at the Lackadaisy web site in The Archive.

...And for Lackadaisy updates announcements and related things, there's a Twitter page.

I would love to see Mrs. Bapka busting people's kneecaps with a wrench.

I absolutely love that first panel on the last row. Even though it is being used in a completely different context, "In Defiance." matched with Viktor's visage describes not only his situation, but also Viktor as a character. Viktor's character and his evolution of such speaks much louder than any of the others. I see him as a relic of an aging war, a fading veteran who is only declining as time moves forward. His days in the war are gone, his days under the Lackadaisy's glory are gone, his health and ability are fading, and his will seems to be rusting away, yet he continues on. Even though the Lackadaisy is failing, he continues under it's banner. Even though his legs are shot and his eye is gone, he keeps fighting. Even though there is no real foreseeable future for him, he continues to work towards it. Why? He has no true reason, but Rocky is right; paisley and regret are all that await him. And so he stands stalwartly in defiance of the changing times, in spite of the rushing tides of change.

I think a line from "The Great Gatsby" describes this situation well;

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And then one fine morning— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Viktor may not be such an optimist, but it stands true that the past is the only "good" Viktor has left. He, like Gatsby can't move beyond the past, but Viktor has no real reason to. That is why he continues with the Lackadaisy. The future may be dim, but a beacon continues to shine from the past. The Lackadaisy is his past and it seems to be the only future left. In Defiance, indeed.

Of course, this is all my opinion and therefore should be paid no attention. Anyway, yes. I find this particular page very inspirational. Love the comic!

I think I understand what Mrs. Bapka is saying, even though I'm actually polish. It's so awesome how the slavic languages are usually somehow related.

It's really incredible how you mix people with cats. Especially for me, 'cause I think cat is a only animal who can survive at my house. ^^;

First, when I read a comic with Mrs. Bapka I was surpised, she speaks like a whole little country, where I live! And it was quite a shock, that someone would choose slovak for his characters. :D

LOL, Mrs. Bapka. Or does that not always mean what I think it means? Anyway, it's awesome how even though each of them is creepy in some way, you bring them together so their interactions seem so natural and entertaining.

What language is Mrs. Babka speaking? I think Viktor is supposed to be Russian, and so am I.....so I know that's not it, I'm kind of curious to find out.
