The language Mrs. Bapka is speaking is Slovak.
"Defiance" here refers to a town in Missouri.

The
Lackadaisy Volume 1 book is available in the publisher's
online store, or through major book stores and comic shops.
If you care to nudge your favorite local shop to stock it, it would be ever so appreciated. (They can now get it through Diamond Distribution.)
As always, prior comic pages can be found at the Lackadaisy web site in
The Archive.
...And for Lackadaisy updates announcements and related things, there's a
Twitter page.
XD Lol I love rocky
I think a line from "The Great Gatsby" describes this situation well;
"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And then one fine morning— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Viktor may not be such an optimist, but it stands true that the past is the only "good" Viktor has left. He, like Gatsby can't move beyond the past, but Viktor has no real reason to. That is why he continues with the Lackadaisy. The future may be dim, but a beacon continues to shine from the past. The Lackadaisy is his past and it seems to be the only future left. In Defiance, indeed.

Of course, this is all my opinion and therefore should be paid no attention. Anyway, yes. I find this particular page very inspirational. Love the comic!
First, when I read a comic with Mrs. Bapka I was surpised, she speaks like a whole little country, where I live! And it was quite a shock, that someone would choose slovak for his characters.
